The healthcare industry has been a significant source of revenue for countries in recent years, including Iran. Many individuals have traveled to Iran for medical treatment, drawn by the country’s advancements in the field of medicine. Iran’s relatively low treatment costs compared to other countries also play a role in attracting patients worldwide.

To facilitate medical tourism, Iran issues a special visa known as a health visa for those seeking treatment in the country. This article will delve into this specific visa type.

The table provided below outlines various types of non-immigrant visas and their respective purposes. For further details, it is advised to reach out to representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Medical visa

A medical visa is a specialized visa intended for individuals with specific medical conditions that require treatment not easily accessible or affordable in their home country, or for diseases that their country lacks the necessary medical resources to address.

Individuals seeking medical treatment abroad conduct research and engage in discussions with the destination country where they plan to receive medical care before applying for the appropriate visa. Typically, medical visas are short-term permits issued for the purpose of receiving medical treatment.

Iran Medical Visa

The Iran Medical Visa, also known as a T-visa, is specifically designed for patients seeking treatment in Iran for a limited period. While the standard duration of this visa is usually 30 days, the length may vary based on the nature of the medical condition. The process of acquiring a medical visa is typically expedited. To apply for a medical visa, the patient or a family member must initiate the visa application through a reputable health tourism agency. It is advised to seek guidance from experienced professionals in the field of medical tourism for comprehensive support through this process.

Steps for Obtaining a Health Visa

An IPD license is a credential held by several hospitals. The International Patient Department (IPD) of a hospital issues an acceptance letter for a patient seeking treatment. This letter of admission, the IPD, is prepared by the hospital for submission to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, outlining the patient’s medical requirements and the necessity for treatment at that specific facility. Along with the medical history and details of the illness, this document is crucial for the patient’s admission process. The patient initiates the application by engaging with a health tourism company, which then negotiates with the hospital on the patient’s behalf to secure the acceptance letter. The patient can then present this letter to the Iranian embassy in their home country to obtain the necessary health visa.

Obtaining an Airport Treatment Visa

In previous years, individuals applying for a health visa without the assistance of health tourism companies were able to obtain their visa directly at certain international airports, as mentioned below. Upon arrival in Iran with an invitation from a hospital and the necessary documentation, they could receive their health visa at the airport. However, it is not recommended to pursue this method. The issuance of health visas is part of new policies being implemented in our country, and attempting to navigate this process independently may lead to errors that could result in visa rejection despite significant time and financial investment. For a smoother and more reliable experience, it is advisable to seek guidance from experts in Health Tourism to ensure accurate advice and assistance throughout the health visa application process.
